The 2010/11 Season could not have started any better for the Trent 2s after winning their first piece of silverware in the Trentham 10s (Subsidery Shield). This with out doubt was catalyst to the opening day which saw good numbers at training and everyone arriving on time and ready for action (thanks guys).
In true 2nd team fashion Trent arrived to a Rugeley team who appeared to have 2 full teams to our 17 men , along with the fair ground 300m from the pitch it looked like a comedy affair for the 1st game of season.
Trent warmed up looking un-prepared and not wanting the game however some sharp words from the skipper and Greg Mawby soon got the Trent pride fired up and ready for action. Trent recieved from the KO and were sooon put into pressure from the huge Rugeley pack, good defensive and much improved fitness kept the scorline at 0-0 for the first 15 mins. Graham Butterworth slotted over a penalty which calmed the nerves of trent who then started to play with more composure. A breakaway try from Rowland Osii was replied by a similair affair from Rugeley and trent went into the break 8-5 in front.
The much improved fitness from the pre-season training soon came into action and steady play in the loose gave a platform for the backs to run at the tired rugeley back line. Trys from Scott Eldershaw and Daniel Wright started to grind Rugeley down which then saw Trent turn on the class to run in several trys before the final wistle.
Overall a great performance in the 2nd half and much improved fitness insured the easy victory. Great open play from the back row and support runing from the pack kept the ball alive for the backs to take adavantage.
Man of the match = Alex Moore who stood in @ Hooker and was brilliant both on and off the ball and made some fantastic tackles.
A special mention to Tim Hughes who stood up to the plate at Hooker despite a bad knock to his shoulder.
Same again next week.
Peace and Love, Jack x
