The first game saw some excellent tagging. Trentham were quick off the mark with Elliott especially on the front foot from Tamworth’s restarts. With both teams quite evenly matched it was important that we took our chances and it was pleasing to see us do so. Highlights included several mazy runs from Mason which eventuated in tries and also a great run and side step from Stanley. All the boys took part in the game with substitutions being made at half time. The second half saw some good running from Owain and Elliott and some terrific organisation from Zeb who captained the side.
After a quick break we took on the second of Tamworth’s teams. What was most pleasing about this was the support work which led to several off loads when tagged resulting in tries. Again Mason was at the forefront of this as was Sam. The game also saw some determined tagging and an opportunistic try for Zeb. This was Sam’s first experience of skippering the team and he did it with aplomb.
The final match was played in the rain as the weather turned for the worse. Tamworth alternated their two teams at half time. Our boys showed resilience with some great tagging from Jacob in particular and from the whole team in the main. We continued to score some really good tries even in difficult weather conditions and as we tired.
On a final note, this was the last competitive game of the year and both Marcus and I are extremely pleased with the progress the team is making. It is only two months or so since we came together as a team and the boys are outstripping our expectations. We are seeing a really tight unit forming and we are very optimistic about how the team will develop. Well done boys and as ever thanks to the parents for their continued support.
